How They Met

Their paths to finding that special someone differed vastly.  Like many who both worked and attended school, Renee found her time to go out and meet people limited - so she visited eHarmony.  Jeremy, on the other hand, was managing his fantasy team and reading about Harry Potter when he clicked on a pop-up and signed up for the dating site.  Fate had now put them in the same virtual world.

One day when sitting at home with her future bridesman, Kevin, Renee sent an "ice breaker" to Jeremy because they both agreed he was cute.  Soon after, Jeremy responded with some questions and after a couple weeks of back and forth online conversation, Jeremy finally got the hint and asked for Renee's number.  They talked on the phone almost nightly for many hours and then Jeremy got the hint again and asked Renee out.  They made plans to meet at Chili's in Encino but didn't want to commit too much time to each other in case the meeting was disastrous so both made an excuse as to why they had to leave early.

Jeremy arrived at Chili's first - the only time he's ever been ready before Renee - and decided to wait on an outside bench for Renee to show up.  Punctual as always, Renee showed up just before their scheduled meeting time and our couple sat for their first meal...ish.  As previously stated, the future lovebirds wouldn't commit much time to this endeavor thus they weren't ready to commit to a whole meal, either.  They ordered some chips & salsa and Jeremy splurged for a couple of beers.  After an hour, they parted ways but both had the other on their mind.

Jeremy left Chili's and headed to Cronie's in Simi Valley, a sports bar - for dinner, he swears - with future groomsman DJ.  Renee, hungry since Jeremy didn't splurge for a real meal, headed to Burbank where she met for dinner with future bridesmaid Briana.  After talking to Briana about her date, they decided that Renee should try to convince Jeremy to meet up with them.  I assure you, this was no small task since Jeremy couldn't locate Burbank on a map.  Jeremy said "maybe" and "I don't know" while secretly driving to the restaurant to meet with them.  But the element of surprise was lost when he found the restaurant but couldn't find them.  Jeremy called Renee, told her that he was at the restaurant, so she found and brought him to their table.  The rest, as they say, is history..

The Engagement

A proposal in Cancun was not going to happen.  That's what Jeremy said and that's what he meant.  But after fully convincing Renee of this, Jeremy changed his mind.

It was day two in Cancun.  Our couple lays on the beach enjoying the sounds of the waves creeping upon the sand.  Renee was resting upon a chaise, soaking in the warmth of the Mexican sun.  Jeremy was splayed atop a beach bed, lost in the tale of treasure and Long John Silver.

"I'm going into the water.  Do you want to come?" Renee asked.

Jeremy looked up from his book.  "Okay.  Just one moment," he replied as he finished up the chapter.

Jeremy sat up, drew a deep breath, then took a long sip of his tropical beverage.  This is it, he thought, as he tapped the ring box resting in his pocket.  Jeremy took another nerve calming breath, stood, then drug his feet through the warm, soft sand.

"Ready?" Renee asked as Jeremy reached for her hand.

"Yep," he replied as he helped her from the chaise.

Hand in hand, they trudged the white sands and stepped into the Caribbean waters.  Jeremy's heart pounded in his chest, seemingly louder and louder with each step into the clear saltwater.  When his pocket floated just above the waves, Jeremy stopped.

"I can't go any further," he said.

"Why not?" Renee replied, turning to look at him.

"I have the camera in my pocket."

"The one with the waterproof case?"

Jeremy nodded in reply.  "And a pen."

Renee stared at Jeremy with a confused expression. "What?" she said.  "Give them to me."

Jeremy reached into his pocket, struggled slightly, and pulled out a plastic encased video camera and ballpoint pen.  Renee took them, clipped the pen to her suit, turned, and took another step into the ocean.

"I still can't go further," Jeremy said.

"Why not?" Renee replied, turning back around.

"I have something else in my pocket.  Your ring."

"Shut up," Renee said dismissively.  "Come on."

"Seriously," Jeremy responded, reaching into his pocket and removing the ring box.

"Shut up!" Renee exclaimed, eyes lighting up.

Nobody knows the exact string of words Jeremy put together next.  Partly because whatever he said was mumbled, and partly because Jeremy was too nervous and Renee too elated to really hear the words.  But the gist is he asked her to be his wife, and she said yes.
